H-F-L Team: Is reselling affiliate products a smart thing to do?Copyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comI have been receiving emails and reading on Blogs and forums about reselling affiliate products online. Many of them have been stating that "why would you want to sell other peoples stuff" and "why be a funnel for someone else?" The answer to me is so very obvious that it makes me laugh. But first if you have a unique product of service that's great. The best of luck to you, you may have found your vehicle to obtaining your Hundred-Fold-life. Now what if you had hundreds or thousands of people promoting the product or service? Would that increase your sales? You bet it would and it is a smart thing to do. Okay back to the original question. Is reselling affiliate products a smart thing to do? Let us assume that you are opening a shoe store. Do you say, "I don't want to carry Nike shoes, because so many others are selling them?" No of course you don't. You know that Nike is popular selling shoe. You will find better way to sell them. Possibly by providing excellent customer service or custom fitting. Now let's apply the same model to online marketing. As you are aware there is a ton of programs online, from affiliate marketing of almost countess products to duplicate websites promoting the same products and programs. So again is that smart to join them? How do you know which one is the right one can you trust them? The process that I use to choose my online marketing/selling is I use a checklist. The list is short and simple. I ask myself a few questions. Would I buy the product or service? Would I recommend it to family and friends? Would I be proud to tell strangers what it is? After getting to yes on all questions I next do my research on the product or service. I check other websites that carry the product or service. I will Google the person that is the developer of the product or service and check them out. Specifically are replicated sites worth promoting? Yes and No. Go through the process above and check them out. One important addition in deciding if they are worth your time and money is do they have training, support and marketing tools included with the site? Training is important if you are new to internet marketing. You need to know how it all works. Support. Do they have a way to contact the company by email and phone? Marketing tools. What good is it to a have website that no one can find? "I have had a bad experience with having a site like that" You need the tools to drive customers to your site. One of the most important is having an autoresponder it is a must have. Blogs are another important feature to have. You need a way to "link" it to your site. It helps with search engine ranking. Did I know all of theses tricks when I started? No. I learned the hard way make that read the expensive way through failure. I don't want this to happen to you, so do your due diligence when deciding how you are going to obtain your Hundred-Fold-Life. H-F-L Team: Is it time to confirm your intentions?Copyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comAs we press forward to achieving our Hundred-Fold-Life. We tend to loose site of the prize. We all know what we are working towards. We must take time to confirm or reconfirm our true intentions. How do we do it? I have an exercise that I have done with my Hundred-Fold-Life Team. I have also introduced it my family and friends. Many of you have heard of it or possibly have done it yourself. That's great if you have. Now is a good time to update it. OK what is it? It is referred to as an Intention Board. It is a simple yet powerful exercise to visualize your needs, wants and intentions. First of all you can make it a party atmosphere. Invite coworkers, employees, and or family members. If you are associated with a MLM group have them come too. This is a fun empowering exercise, so keep it fun. Next, when you invite your guests have them bring magazines to the party. The best magazines are car, home decor, home furnishings, travel, fashion and financial magazines. Also sports magazines that you or they participate in such as golf skiing, and SCUBA publications. Also needed is scissors glue, "glue sticks work the best", poster board about 22" X 28" (55.9 cm X 71.1 cm). Have everyone spread out and get comfortable with room to work. Explain the rules. The rules are simple but important to follow. This is a personal exercise done for you. The only exception is for a couple like a married couple. Still even in a committed relationship we sometime have different personal goals. So it is okay to do your own. Now this step is crucial. You must be totally honest with yourself about what you want from life. Everyone must understand from the start to support one another and not judge what the other is doing. Start cutting out pictures of what you want and what you want to achieve. Go ahead cut out that picture of that new Mercedes Benz, BMW, or Cadillac. If that is one of the things that your working for great. How about that new home? Do you want that mansion or that beach house go for it? Need a new computer for you home business find that perfect one for you. Is it an iMac or a Hewlett Packard? Don't forget playtime. I know I want those new Callaway golf clubs. Be specific in your choices. You want to have a crystal clear picture of what it is that you want or need. Do the kids need to go to college? Find a photo of a graduation ceremony. I think you get the idea. When everyone is done you can share what's on your board. Remember to be supportive. Some of us have big dream big goals. When you get home find a place for the board so that you will see it everyday. It will be a constant reminder of why you are working. You will need to update it about once a year if things change it is easy to paste over something or add something. Remember the Inspiration Board is there for well inspiration. You must take the next step daily. Act. Act on achieving your goals. You know better than I of what you need to do. So get out there and swing for the fences. You will be well on your way to achieving your Hundred-Fold-Life. About the Author:Douglas Miller is a retired Fire Service Captain now making a living working at home. H-F-L-Team: Wholesale Opportunities For Home BusinessesCopyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comNo matter what your home business is, getting the product into your own hands can be a challenge, and if you don’t do it right you might find yourself out of products, or out of money to buy new products. This is where wholesale opportunities are going to come in very handy, because they’ll be able to give you a chance to buy what you need, buy a lot of it, and buy it cheaply. Many Opportunities There are simply too many wholesale opportunities to count when it comes to your home business. It is all going to depend on what type of business you have, what you are selling, and how you are creating the product. I have found and use a great wholesaler. They have millions of products ready for you to sell. They will drop ship my products to my customers. That way I don’t have to maintain an inventory. Use Drop Shipping to get started, and identify the products that sell well for you in your market without investing in inventory. My favorite source is World Wide BrandsJim "Griff" Griffith The "Dean of eBay University" and the host of eBay Radio Show recommends World Wide Brands also. You can simply sell items that someone else is making. The only way that you are going to make money is if you are buying them wholesale. You have to be able to buy a lot of the products that you want to sell so that you can buy them for cheap, and then you can resell them for a greater amount of money. This is a great home business venture, and it is something that you can very easily find as a great opportunity for you. If you would like F*R*E*E Product Sourcing Video Course Click HereMaking Products The other way that you can use wholesale opportunities to enhance your business is if you are making the products that you are selling, and if you are making them from products that you can buy wholesale. This is often going to be even more rewarding when it comes to the money that you are bringing in, because you’ll find that the easiest way to deal with making new products is to buy all of the pieces wholesale. You’ll be able to get a much better deal, and once you have created the item that you are selling in your home business, you’ll be able to sell this item for even more money, which is going to make you even more money as well. There is nothing quite like the opportunity that buying wholesale can offer you. This means that you are going to be purchasing items in bulk, a lot of them in other words, for very little money. There are many companies that make their own money selling you items in bulk, because they can have the items made even more cheaply and this means that everyone is benefiting from this idea. For a home business, no matter what size home business you might have, you are going to want to look into buying items wholesale. There is simply no other way that this can be a success for you to gain a Hundred-Fold-Life. There is something great about buying wholesale and about enjoying the benefits. H-F-L Team: When To Know Your Business Needs RevampingCopyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comIs your business steadily growing or is it slowly falling apart? Are profits less than last year or the year before that? Is the market for your services still out there? Are you not getting the business like you did before? Maybe it is time for a change or just some revamping what you already have. Check out the basics and see if they can be improved. Is your web site and/or brochure colorful and interesting? Do they focus on your business and it's services? That's okay, But does it really provide an understanding of a client's concerns or issues? Try reading them as a future client, instead of a business owner. Would you use this business based on the brochure or website? Another area to examine is your marketing team. Do they explain your services in depth? Keep your training fresh and relevant to new or updated products. Are you matching you competitors? Shop you competitors regularly. Are they "cold" calling new prospects each month? Do they continue to follow up with them on a regular basis? Are they explaining the uniqueness of your company? Making sure you are focusing on solving the client's issues and situations is more important, than making your company look good. Keeping old customers is as important to gaining new ones. Advertising is another area to check for "staleness". Is it flashy and very loud? Is it bland and boring? Shake it up a little bit. Client testimonies with a ring of honest, make for good advertising. Pictures of finished projects speak volumes about your work. Are you investigating other advertising avenues? Another avenue to use is having someone from your marketing or sales team present papers such as a "Press Release" at various business related events. The paper doesn't have to be specifically about your company, it should represent the value of your product or services. Wright it to get your company name out there to the public. When giving a paper, just make sure it is not loaded with facts and figures, but establish a mutual understanding of the issue. If your business has been revamped and you are not bringing in the clientele that you were prior to the need to revamp, then maybe it's time to consider a change in the products or services that you offer. It may be beneficial to you to add a small service to your original company. This small increase maybe the key to returning the customers to your front door. It is possible that you may offer services that are time consuming, that are not necessary, and do not bring in the revenue that you want. These are services that you might consider dropping from your business. Poll you customers. Find out what they like and don't like. Revamping your personal business maybe just what you need to return bring in return customers. It may also bring the business out of the financial slump you are in. This may be your chance to feel rejuvenated and get excited about owning your own business again. Remember to live a Hundred-Fold-Life you need to also be providing the same desire for your customers. H-F-L Team: Hey Baby I have An Internet Domain.Copyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comI relatively new craze among new parents is to get their newborn bundles of joy their own domain name. Why? Many reasons are expressed. They want to establish their child’s digital identities. With the rate and change of the Internet, parents believe that in the near future say ten to twenty years’ people will need a digital identity. The identity will arise from school, sports and social organization to religious affiliation. This will create a record of fact to present to higher education intuitions employers and military careers and other professional pursuits. Consider how today’s typical teenager use the Internet with Facebook and MySpace. It seems that each week I find another “social networking” site popping up on the net. Another great idea is a school yearbook in digital form. Remember your yearbook absolutely nothing in there about you, yet you did a bunch of stuff. Was that fair? In the near future will it be almost impossible to not to be on one for reasons stated earlier? As technology marches on will our kids be able to give schools, employers and friends an instant digital “business/resume’ card”, most likely from a cellular phone? I strongly believe YES to both questions. This will be a way to meet and greet and keep in touch with old friends. As we develop relationships around the world we will be able to shrink the word and stay in touch with each other. Back to the newborns. Parents want to be able to communicate every little thing in their babies’ lives. Just as our parents did. They went out and bought super eight movie cameras then those big honking VHS camcorders. Now parents can record juniors every milestone and send it to family a world away. Having a personal domain makes it kind of cool. Some personal sites also have Baby Blogs, so friends and family can post and respond back. Uncle Joe in Montpelier can reply back to aunt Judy in Scranton that the best cure for diaper rash is not Peanut butter. What’s this all cost? Not a lot when you add up all the baby stuff that you have to buy along with everything else that you don’t. You can buy a domain name for about nine dollars from www.GoDaddy.com and hosting for under thirty-five a year. GoDaddy.com Hosting Plans I found two sites that focus on baby’s digital services. They are www.TotSites.com and www.Baby-Homepages.net. I can assure you many more are on the way. Many of us parents are working from home, making a living online, to achieve that Hundred-Fold-Life especially moms “you go mom”. Why not include our kids in instilling that entrepreneurial sprit from an early age? The future is here so being responsible moms and dads we will want to teach our kids Internet safety from an early age. We are well aware of the myriad of predators lurking on the net. We will want it to be normal that we as parents are surfing the net with them, and including each other in our digital lives. H-F-L Team: What Your College Professor Didn't Tell You About Running A Business Copyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comThere are many things that you probably aren't aware of that you are going to have to know as you embark on the process of running your own business. First of all, remember that your college professors probably gave you lots of good advice when it comes to running your business, and there is probably a lot that they told you about how to do things and when to do things. And did your college professor ever run a business? However, you know that there are many things that you weren't told, and some of these things are very important. It's Hard! You probably weren't told this, but running your own business is hard. Not just slightly hard, but really hard. When you start out, you are going to have to have a period of time in which you have no money and in fact, in which you are losing money. Businesses need start up costs, and in order to make money you are going to have to spend money. This is hard because you are going to have to eat into your savings and probably take out some loans to cover it. No Sleep! The other thing you might not have been told is that as you are running a business, you might not be sleeping very much. When you first start out, you probably don't have enough money to hire anyone, which means that you have to be in charge of everything. You have to set up a website, coordinate emails and orders, fill the orders, make or ship the product, collect the money, keep track of all of the taxes, and be sure that you do this all in a manner that speaks highly of you and makes others want to continue to use your business. Count on not getting very much sleep for awhile, because as you start to run your business you are probably going to be sleep deprived, and this is probably going to last for quite some time. Remember though, that it is going to be worth it. No matter how hard it seems now, and no matter how much you have to do at the start, when you have your home business up and running and it begins to be a profit to you, you are going to find that it is completely worth it. When your living the Hundred-Fold-Life you can set your own hours, take care of your business the way that you want to, and you can be completely in charge of your financial future. This is a fantastic place to be, and you can be there if only you have the strength to get yourself through the hard parts at the beginning. Nothing is better than looking into the mirror in the morning and saying good morning to the boss. H-F-L Team: What to Do When You Feel like Quitting Your BusinessCopyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comHave you had it? Ready to pack it in and start sending out resumes again? Sometimes working for yourselves turns out different than you expected. Don't throw in the towel yet. Step back and get a new perspective on working. It's time to motivate yourself. Don't throw away what you have accomplished so far. All small business owners get frustrated at some point in time. A lot of small businesses fail due to owner burnout. What can you do to get out of the rut? Here are a few ideas. Being stressed out is a big factor in wanting to quit. Try taking a few deep breaths. Deep breathing relaxes the mind and body. You might want to try some form of exercise daily. Getting massage once a week is a great stress reliever. Go to the gym. Maybe it is time to turn the computer off or take a break from your work. Remember if you keep using the same ax over and over without sharpening it, you will get less and lees work done. Get away for a few minutes or even a few days. Getting out of your element will refresh you. Try a picnic, a weekend camping trip or a few days at the beach. Taking your mind off of business can and will refresh you. Don't forget about low cost stress relievers, walk in the park a bike ride. Don't have the ability to leave home for a while? Try some motivational reading. There are lots of books out there about successful business owners. Exploring how others have overcome their obstacles may help you overcome your own. Or read other motivational books about a great general past or present, or a book on King David. Reading how others have decided not to quit, can make you decide not to quit, either. Now is not the time to give up. You could be only one step away from success. Don't get desperate. Desperation can get in the way of your reasonable thinking. Keep taking those steps. You never know when the next step will lead to success. Tell yourself you are a winner. Winners don't quit. You have to tell yourself that you are a winner and believe it. Find a quiet place to relax. Close your eyes take some deep breaths and visualize your success. New house new car all bills paid. See yourself living a Hundred-Fold-Life. If you don't believe in yourself, then no one else will. Deciding to keep your business is a step in the right direction. You must realize that there is no "quick fix." Succeeding involves your emotions, desires, thoughts or focus, and your beliefs. Be sure to nurture each of these areas. Each successful businessperson goes through processes to feed each of these areas. It is up to you to find what successfully feeds each of yours. Motivation is the driving force to succeeding. You will need to learn to motivate yourself each day. Learn to respect the challenge and invent your energy in your under taking. Overhaul your beliefs, journal log your experiences and read lots of books on your subject. The biggest thing is to have lots and lots of patience. Believe in yourself and go out and succeed. Remember you deserve a Hundred-Fold-Life. About the Author:Douglas Miller is a retired Fire Service Captain now making a living working at home. H-F-L-Team: What Is A Business Plan? Copyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comWhen you have a home business, you might not have thought about a business plan, but you are going to need one, and you should do your best to make sure that you have one set up before you start with your business. This is something that you need, no matter what type of business you have, and no matter how you plan on going about your future with the home business. A business plan is going to be a must, so be sure that you have one set up. What Is It? When it comes to your business, you are going to need a business plan. Remember that a home business is always going to either offer a product or offer a service in exchange for money. This is an over-simplification, but it is the one rule that you can stand by. You need to be able to make money, so you need people to pay you for your service or for whatever item you sell. The business plan, then, is a way of setting this up and making sure that it is going to work. In your home business plan you are going to want to list the service or product that your business is going to provide, and how much you are going to be paid for it, minus how much you are going to need to pay to either put the product together or deliver your service. The idea of a business plan, therefore, is to write down what you are selling, how much you are selling it for, and how much it is going to cost you to do whatever it is that your business is doing. By looking at the figures you come up with in your business plan, you can actually see what kinds of profits you can think about having, and you can decide whether or not your business is going to be a success. Of course, a good business plan is going to be able to be modified whenever you need to make changes in your business. It isn't something that should remain set in stone, because the business that can't grow is going to end up in a lot of trouble. This means that you have to take pains to be sure that you are developing a business plan, and a business, that can actually change and grow with the times. You will need to review your business plan on a regular time bases. Go over it once a quarter "every three months" See if it is working or needs changes. Think of it as planning a vacation. You want to fly to Florida and airline "A" has changed its flights. You still want to fly to Florida but now you must change to airline "B". Your still going to get there just the way you planed at fist has changed. This is something that is very important for you to remember when you are putting your business plan together. As long as it makes sense, and as long as it can grow and change, your business plan is only going to lead to your success in your home business. H-F-L-Team: The Risks Of Running A Business Yourself Copyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comRunning your own business can be a challenge, and it can also be frustrating. If you don't have experience in running a business yourself, you may find yourself with more problems than you can handle, especially if you choose an area in which you are not familiar. So become familiar with the type of business you want to get involved with before you do. Because of the risks of running a business, it's important that you make sure you develop as much knowledge as possible before you venture into the world of the unknown. Running a business yourself has both risks and bonuses, with one of the greatest risks being the fact that you are now in charge of your own destiny. There is no employer to provide a paycheck or benefits; it's all up to you. That means that you must make certain that you bring in enough work to take care of your financial needs, something that can create a great deal of stress, especially if you are the only wage earner. Some fields are routinely busier than others, and thus not as volatile to downturns in the economy. Unless you are in one of those field, or are a professional such as an accountant or a lawyer, you want to be sure that you have some cash set aside before you give up your full-time job to start a business of your own. Be prepared to not to have an income that you are accustomed to for six months to a year. Another risk of owning a business is that of losing your personal possessions, especially your home, over business debts. It's important, even if you are operating a home-based business, to make sure that you protects your personal assets from business seizure by incorporating. If your business is rather small, it may not be of much importance, but if you're running a rather substantial business, especially one that involves the purchase or any kind of products and supplies on a credit plan, make sure that you pay for the extra protection for your personal assets to cover them from seizures. You must follow the laws in your individual states because not all states have the same regulations. Go online or to the library to find the information for free. However, if your state is one of those that only allows business creditors to touch property that is assigned to the business, you definitely want to consider that as an option. Loss of income due to illness is another risk involved in owning your own business. You are no longer protected by the employer's sick time and short time disability, so you have to assume those risks on your own either by setting money aside in case the need arises or investing in insurance to protect you from those kinds of things. The same holds true for health insurance having a business means that you are responsible for all of the costs of your health and illnesses. It also means that unless you have others working for you that if you aren't able to work, there will be no money coming into the household from the business. Good solid planning ahead can't be stressed enough. The fewer surprises down the road the better. Do you have what it takes to be an e-entrepreneur?Copyright © Stone Evans, The Home Biz Guy Author of "Dotcomology - The Science of Making Money Online"NOTE: H-F-L-Team, I have Re-Posted this article from my friend Stone. It is worth a second or first look. It is full of very useful information. Check it out. These days, it seems like everyone wants to work from home and make money on the Internet. But before you even turn on your computer, the first question you have to ask yourself is whether you’re cut out for this kind of work. The fact is, building a home-based business isn’t for everyone. Some people like the commute. They really do enjoy having a boss who tells them what to do, and they like the routine of working nine-to-five for an ordinary salary that can barely pay the mortgage. Personally, I think they’re nuts. More reasonably, there are people who are concerned about the risk of starting up their own business. They’re not sure it’s worth the investment of time and money, and they’re scared of the responsibility that comes with running their own company. They wonder if there is another way to escape the rat race. I’m sure there is. You could win the lottery or wait for your Aunt Sue to keel over and leave you her condo. Or maybe you could sit down with a pen and paper and draw the blueprint for "The Next Big Thing". Anything can happen... Right? For me, what happened was creating a successful, self-running Internet marketing system. It didn’t happen without effort. It didn’t happen without at least some initial investment of both time and money and, of course, it doesn’t happen now without me making sure that the taxes are filed and the paperwork is done. But it happened. I’m my own boss. I work from home according to my own schedule and I get to pocket all the cash my business makes. H-F-L-Team: Taking Risks, While Making Money With Your BusinessCopyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comAt sometime in everyone's life, they dream of being their own boss, owning their own company. The trick to being your own boss is to enjoy what you are doing and making money at the same time. Starting your own business is a risk, but learning to minimize the risks is using your head. Evaluate your talents. Select a career that uses your creativity and talent helps insure your chance of success. Doing what you enjoy will prolong your interest in your work. Do what you love and the money will follow. It also guarantees that what you are doing is not exactly like anyone else. Stepping out on your own means no more company benefits. One of the biggest benefits is insurance. Select several insurance policies to protect you for different areas of your business. Make sure you get enough life insurance to cover your family's obligations, if something should happen to you. Disability insurance is good in case of illnesses or accidents. Some insurance companies give discounts for multiple policies. Taking a partner will help minimize the risk of starting your own business. Find someone who shares your passions and skills. A friend or acquaintance that enjoys doing what you enjoy makes a great business partner. Confirm that you share the same vision. Do your research. Explore different possibilities. Is one side of town better than another? Do you want to use your home as your home base or rent a place? Which fabric works better, can everyone use this product, etc? Using other people's experiences will reduce your chances of failure. Get rid of all your negative thoughts. Relax. Be optimistic. Focus your thoughts towards setting and obtaining your goals. Learn to prioritize your time, money and abilities. While spending a great deal of your time working towards your goal, take some time for yourself. Celebrate your small successes by doing this you won't become burnt out. Do you need luck to succeed? Maybe a little, but don't depend on it. Get some training in areas that you don't necessarily know, such as accounting or management. Make a yearly plan and reexamine it periodically. Luck is a matter of odds. Do what you can to improve yours. Learn to act accordingly, in times of uncertainty. It doesn't hurt to play it a little safe at the beginning. Start out with small risks, and then move to larger ones. Items that seem impossible at first may seem smaller with time and more experience. Get some feedback from others. You never know when a good idea will surface from a comment made in passing. Take that jump; step out to a new future. Just remember to plan, organize, stay focused and work hard. Most of all stop dreaming and make that dream a reality. About the Author:Douglas Miller is a retired Fire Service Captain now making a living working at home. H-F-L-Team: Should You Attend Home Business Seminars When Starting A Business?Copyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comWhen a person is getting ready to start a business, whether a home-based business or one in the traditional brick and mortar building, they should consider attending business seminars. Regardless of the amount of experience they have, there are always things to be learned from others. The type of business being started there are numerous common issues that all businesses will face and professionals offering advice may be able to present new points of view for old problems. For those beginning a business for the first time, the best seminar they can attend would be on time management, learning how effectively to share time between the business and the family. Developing an efficient work-life balance will not only benefit the business but may also save a marriage and other family relationships. Everyone knows that when a new business is started there is a lot of work to be done, and the owner will spend more time working for themselves than when working for someone else, but learning how to manage the time can help save a lot of stress. Making decisions will be vital part of every business and while some may seem insignificant, such as where to buy copy paper, others may have an impact on more than only the person making the decision. The attitude of being the business owner and only their opinion matters will not last long in the business environment. Attending home business seminars when starting a business can show how some decisions may affect suppliers and customers as well as employees. By attending decision-making seminars the best ways to communicate the changes can be learned. Many times when running your home business there will be some issues that may seem pretty complex and difficult to solve. Business seminars on problem solving can outline ways to see problems from different angles and approach them from different perspectives in order to each a conclusion that will benefit all the people affected by the decision. Additionally, with business seminars you can also learn how effectively to brainstorm with others to reach a conclusion and develop a plan to fix the problem. One of the most important parts of operating a home business is communications since most of it may be by telephone or email and effectively communicating your point on any issue will help insure others understand the point being made. Communications seminars can also be related to family members, especially when the line because I said so does not work anymore. Creativity and changes in the workplace are also typically offered for business owners to help them through the progress of business growth. Whether through self-development courses or group business seminars, (check your local community college) every business owner should take advantage of every opportunity to learn more about the basics as well as the fine points of running a home business About the Author:Douglas Miller is a retired Fire Service Captain now making a living working at home. H-F-L-Team: Should Relatives Go into Business Together?Copyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comThere are many asking if relatives should go into business together and the answer is elusive for many reasons. Depending on how closely related they are and how close they are personally can have a direct effect on their ability to work together as equal partners in a business. Different people have different personalities and the person with the most dominant personality will end up being in charge, whether planned or not, which can cause friction when running a business together. If the relatives have known each other a long time and are well acquainted, they should already know who the stronger of two is, but in a business managing by intimidation is never a good performance standard. Before entering the business climate, they have to talk through the good and bad of being in business together, knowing that if they end up unable to work things out it will now only wreck a friendship, but can cause discord within the entire families with people taking sides in any dispute. Consider money, start-up costs and advertising expenses and all other costs of doing business how will those be split? Have a firm understanding form the start. Remember, you will still be related when it is over. Being in a business as a family may have worked for the so-called mob, but in that scenario there was a firmly entrenched order and violations of that order had very swift and severe consequences. Not the management flow chart that operate a successful business. If persons hoping to go into business together cannot agree on the basics of who will be in charge of what, then the answer is no, relatives should not go into business together, Family members with similar personalities often find themselves unemployed and view going into business together as a viable means to support their families. Understanding the strengths and weakness of both, they can use that to establish a management chart to determine who will be in charge of what aspect of running the business. They may also find there are portions of running the business with which they have no experience and may need another person to help fulfill those needs. By sitting down and outlining the needs of starting a business and what each person can bring to the business table, they will be better prepared to deal with any issues that arise with being related in operating the same business. There will be conflicts as there are in any business relationship, but the fact they are related should never enter any business-related discussion. Additionally, there must be the attitude of what happens at work stays at work. Complaining to the spouse or other family members can lead to inner-family arguments that probably are not worth fighting over in the first place. One of the biggest problems faced when relatives are in business together may be in scheduling. When there is a family function, both people will most likely want to attend and as owners of the business should not be a problem, but there may be times when the needs of the business require one to be available, the need to work out who will go and who will work may rock the relationship boat. H-F-L- Team: Running Your Home Business Like A Business Not A Hobby Copyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comThere are many different reasons that you might want to run a home business and one of the biggest reasons that lot of people turn to this route is that they want to be doing something that they love. Most people who start a home business do it with something in mind that they really are passionate about, or something that they love to do. The general idea is that if you are going to be working from home, you might as well be doing something that you really love to do, and you might as well actually be able to enjoy yourself while you are doing it. There are many reasons that this is great and you are doing something that you love, so there really isn't any stress or pressure because you are making money off of what you love. However, when it comes right down to this, you have to be sure that you are taking care of some of the major business in your life and without turning it into only a hobby. You have to treat your business as a business, no matter how much you love whatever you are doing, and you have to decide that you are going to be smart about your business, and that means running it like a business, not a hobby. Set Rules The best way that you can make sure your business is run like a business, and not a hobby, is to set rules for yourself to make sure that you are actually getting the most out of your business. Be that boss that you want to work hard for. You want to have a set time during the day, and set days of the week, that you are working, and you have to stick to this schedule to make sure that you have enough time to get your work done. You simply don't want to put it on the back-burner and work on it whenever you get around to it, because if you do it that way you will see that you are actually going to be having problems with your home business, and it isn't really as important to you as it should be. So, setting up work schedules is one way to make sure that is a business, not a hobby. Another thing that you can be sure to do is to always be as professional as possible. Make sure that you are treating your business like a business. This means that when you go to work, dress like you are going to work. When you talk about your home business, talk about it in a way that tells others you are serious about it and that it means a lot to you. This is very important, and this is part of the reason that you want to make your business a business, not just a hobby. Running A Home Business & Working Full Time Outside Your Home, Can It Be Done?Copyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comVery few people will claim they are bringing enough money home to meet all their needs and wants. Several will begin a home business to supplement their income while remaining at the full time job outside. This can take a toll on the personal life as well as the health of just about anyone running a home business and working full time outside the home. One of the first considerations should be is the home business in conflict with the full time job, as many employers will not tolerate competition from one of their employees. For example, a person working in a retail environment in nearly any capacity may find themselves in conflict with company policies if they begin an online retail outlet. Or someone working for a carpet cleaning company starting a home business offering cleaning services part time as a home business. Being in conflict often forces the employee to make a choice of keeping their full time job or finding work elsewhere. There are many home business opportunities available that will not conflict with outside work environments, but the time involved in operating the home business will need to examined to determine if it can be done effectively while working full time. The business operator will only have limited availability as well as time to spend on the business and the time needed to run the business will have to be reallocated from another part of the day. A person with a family will need to know that any time needed to run the home business will have to come from time usually used for family functions or just spending time with the wife and kids. The full time employer will not tolerate someone spending time on their home business while being paid so dividing the time between work, running the business and family may or may not be worth the extra income from a home business. In some cases, there are home business opportunities that require little time and enable it to be run at the convenience of the owner. Working online could be the answer. It has worked for many others and me. With these jobs time can be arranged in which to run the business without losing time with family and friends, although sacrificing sleep or relaxation time may be necessary. Overall, there will be some sacrifice of time and personal involvement when running a business and working full time outside the home. Time management will be essential in creating work-life balance as well as remaining organized so as not to allow important aspects of work, home business operation and family slip through the cracks. A single schedule guiding the commitments for all obligations will be needed in order to accomplish everything that needs done and to stay ahead of the work. H-F-L-Team: Reorganizing Your Business When It's Just Not WorkingCopyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comSometimes, no matter how hard you try; you will find that your business just doesn't work the way that you want it to. No matter how well you have done on your business plan, and no matter how much information you have that tells you're your business is going to work, you are probably going to find yourself in a situation where you need to reorganize your thoughts, as well as some of your business, in order to make sure that it is going to be profitable like you hoped that it would be. Don't Get Stuck One of the most important things that you can do as you own a business is to try hard to not get stuck with the way that the business works and with the way that it is set up. Getting stuck with the way that you think a business should be is a mistake that lots of people make, and it something that can be a disaster to you if you don't allow yourself to change and grow with the times. You have to be sure that you are always keeping tabs on your business and that you are evaluating how well it is working and what you can do to make it better. If you come to a point in time in which you don't think your business is working at all, you are probably going to have to completely reorganize it, no matter how hard this might seem. This is something that you might have to do, and it is something that you are going to want to do because sometimes the only way to save your business is to overhaul it and reorganize it. The first step in this process is going to be taking a look at your business and seeing what you could perhaps do to make it better. This means that you have to be sure to take a look at the various types of work that is coming in, how you are processing it, and how it is working. This is something that you should be doing on a regular basis. However, if you find that it just isn't working, this is the time that you are going to want to take to change it so that it works better. Remember that when you reorganize your business, it isn't completely like starting from scratch, but you might want to treat it like it is. Take the time to write a business plan that shows you how you can succeed, and then make the changes that need to be made so that your business isn't failing any more. Have a trusted friend or mentor look over your business plan and ask for input, fresh eyes often give you a new prospective. Don't be afraid to start completely over on some of your projects, because this just might be the tip that you are all looking for to make sure that you are going to be a success. Renting Your Office Space Can Be WiseCopyright © Douglas Miller Hundred-Fold-Life http://www.ClixGo.comWhen you have a business, there are several things that you want to think about. When you are first starting out, you might decide that you want your business to be at your home, which means that your office would be at home and you'd be dealing with all of your customers through home. Sometimes this makes sense, because you really can get a lot done and you can really take the time to be at home, which means that you can also take the time to do other things that you have always wanted to do. However, there might come a point when your business has grown, or when you are ready to move further forward with your business, and when this happens you might decide that renting out office space is your best option when it comes to where your business is. Why Rent? There are many reasons that you might want to think about renting out your office space. First of all, this is something that can be done that is not permanent. If you can find the right kind of lease, you can pretty much determine when you have your office there and when you are done. If you are on a month to month lease, it will mean that if you ever decide you want to move your business back to your home, or change locations, it is fairly easy to do so and doesn't require a lot of work. This is only one of the advantages to renting your office space. Another thing that can be great about renting your office space is that this is relatively cheap and can usually be written off as a business expense. This means that you will find there is little to no worry about what you are doing and where the money to do it is coming from. You can find office space quite cheap, and it can be a good way to get your business farther along. Shop around; remember to check for important amenities such as high-speed internet service. Shared receptionist with others in the office. There is another good thing to having your home business located in an office that you are renting. It is often too easy to work too much if you have a home business, because you can always go to your home office and work. This might be good for some jobs, but if you find that you are taking time away from your family, and working too often, moving your office to a rented space is a great way to make sure that your home business hours don't take over your whole life. If you find that you are having trouble not working for 24 hours straight, moving to a rented office is a great way to stop this and to allow you to have better control over when you work and when you don't work.
